Hello!

Thank you for your consideration!

We have an incredible opportunity to continue the progress of the Velomont Trail, a multi-use trail optimized for mountain biking, and we need your support.

The new segment of the trail will extend the Velomont by approximately 72 miles through the Manchester Ranger District in the Green Mountain National Forest. However, along with our partners in recreation, we will be utilizing existing trails and forest roads as much as possible to connect nearby trail networks and communities.

The scope of work for this particular segment includes:

  • 15 miles of new trail construction
  • 25 miles of improving existing trail
  • 14 miles utilizing existing, already well-maintained trails
  • 9 miles of area-specific relocation to improve sustainability
  • 9 miles of existing Forest Service Roads

Every section of new and improved trail will be adaptive friendly, increasing access for everyone, and built with modern-day, best practices to reduce maintenance costs and be more resilient to Vermont’s changing climate.

We couldn’t be more excited for this next step in the Velomont’s development, and we hope you are, too. We’re asking folks to please leave a comment before December, 13th, 2024. If it’s helpful, we’ve prepared a few sentences below for you to copy/paste and/or edit to include any specific reasons why you support the Velomont’s progress.

[SAMPLE COMMENT]

To whom it may concern:

I’m writing in support of the U.S. Forest Service’s proposal to extend the Velomont Trail through the Manchester Ranger District in the Green Mountain National Forest. In particular, I support the 72 miles of trail construction, relocation, improvements, and/or designation managed for mountain biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing activities that will provide critical trail connectivity for various user groups, including those on the Velomont Trail and Catamount Trail.

I believe that the new and upgraded trails will increase access to the outdoors while providing valuable opportunities for recreation, conservation, and inclusion for Vermonters, adaptive athletes, and their surrounding communities.

Respectfully,
