Guidelines for Safe VT Hut Experiences

*Updated July 27, 2020*   We are accepting reservations for Vermont residents and out of staters who are able to comply with Vermont’s Cross-State Travel guidelines. Out of staters: Please reference the map, identify your county, and read the requirements as they relate to your specific geographic area:   https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel   All guests will be required to fill out a certificate of compliance on the day of their arrival. A link to the certificate will be provided after making a reservation, and it must be filled out on the date of your arrival, not in advance.   The language below applies to huts booked through the Vermont Huts website, including Chittenden Brook Hut, Nulhegan Hut, Crow’s Nest Yurt, and Triple Creek Cabin. Other huts listed on our site may have their own booking policies, and we encourage you to reference their respective websites for additional information.   The Vermont Huts Association is committed to the safety of our guests and members of the community in which our huts are located. On March 17, 2020, we made the decision to close all huts in our network in an effort to help flatten the curve of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. To date, most Vermonters have abided by the governor’s stay home, stay safe order, and, as a result, our state has seen a significant reduction in the spread of the virus.   Remember, all of our rates are for the exclusive use of the entire hut, meaning you will not be sharing the hut with anyone outside of your party for the night(s) of your reservation.   The following protocols, which have been developed based on CDC guidelines and input from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, must be followed by all guests staying in huts booked through the Vermont Huts website:
  • All guests will be required to fill out a brief, digital health survey on the day of their arrival (link to be provided via email) to ensure no guests are symptomatic.
  • Guests shall not stay in any of our huts if sick or symptomatic (with fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath)
    • Full refund(s) will be given for any reservation(s) canceled due to Covid-19 illness. This also applies to reservations cancelled by VT Huts due to future government or self-imposed shutdowns.
  • Party size shall not exceed:
    • 10 guests at Chittenden Brook Hut
    • Six guests at Nulhegan Hut
    • Six guests at Crow’s Nest Yurt.
  • Check-in and check-out times are being modified to allow more of a buffer between guest stays. Check-in time is now 3 pm. Check out time is now 10 am. When a reservation is made, an extra “buffer” night will be automatically added between guest stays to allow more time between each party.
  • Guests acknowledge they are staying in remote cabins that are not serviced by staff on a daily basis. As such, guests must take the following precautionary measures to ensure cleanliness:
    • Upon arrival (and before entering the hut), wipe down the exterior door handle(s) of the hut with an EPA-certified cleaning agent. Vermont Huts will make every effort to adequately stock its huts with hand sanitizer, cleaning agents, and disposable gloves, but guests should still bring their own supplies as well.
    • Before bringing any bags or food into the hut, wipe down all surfaces and touch points (door handles, tables, countertops, cooktop controls, etc…) with an EPA-certified cleaning agent. Detailed directions will be provided in each hut.
    • Some huts have mattresses provided. Guests must bring a sheet plus their sleeping bag to place over the mattress. Guests are responsible for packing out what they pack in, as always.
    • When departing the hut, wipe down all surfaces and touch points (door handles, tables, countertops, cooktop controls, etc…) with an EPA-certified cleaning agent. This will help to prepare the hut for our next guests. Detailed directions will be provided in each hut.
    • Complete departure checklist documentation (provided in hut) acknowledging your party has cleaned touch surfaces mentioned above.
    • Guests should wear a face mask when using public outhouses (Chittenden Brook Hut, for example).
  • All huts are pack-in, pack-out and Leave No Trace. Guests are responsible for properly disposing of their cleaning materials once they return to civilization.
  • Vermont Huts will make every effort to adequately stock its huts with hand sanitizer, cleaning agents, and disposable gloves. However, guests should also bring these items in case of unexpected shortages.
