Hello!

Thank you so much for your interest—your input is needed.

The USDA Forest Service is inviting your comments for our proposed South Pond Hut in Green Mountain National Forest. Commenting will take less than two minutes, and your input will help to show there is broad support for new points of ADA-access to the outdoors.

The South Pond Hut will be located in Chittenden, VT along the Velomont and Catamount Trail, and only be a quarter-mile from the Long Trail, making it an ideal spot for multiple user groups. Additionally, it will be the next hut south of our Chittenden Brook Hut, allowing for multi-day hut to hut adventures.

A detailed description of the proposal can be found on the Forest Service site HERE.

Comments can be submitted online until September 8, 2025 HERE.

If you’re short on time, we’ve provided a few sentences below expressing support for our proposed South Pond Hut—feel free to use the following text or modify as you see fit:

To whom it may concern:

I’m writing in support of the proposed South Pond Hut Special Use Permit and Project Specific Forest Plan Amendment pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act.

An ADA-accessible hut in this location takes advantage of existing infrastructure and is ideally situated to host users of the Long Trail, Catamount Trail, and future Velomont Trail, creating a new point of access to the outdoors for trail users of all ages and abilities.
